- The Immigrant Ancestors Project (IAP) is an index representing a variety of collections from archives throughout Europe. This means that each record is unique in the type of information it might include.
- The IAP site is a finding aid that helps researchers locate some of the emigration records available from some European archives. Each individual record contains an extract of details, along with archive contact information necessary to request a copy of the original document.
- The IAP search engine can identify some naming variations, but not for all possible spellings. If the initial search fails to locate a name, try a variety of spellings, nicknames, initials and foreign spellings.
- The IAP search engine uses current country names. However, when the individual record opens, the country is listed as it was in the original record.
